The Warming House was an installation for the Illuminate SouthLoop festival in Bloomington Feb 1-3, 2018. It was a great collaboration between artists Amanda Lovelee and Emily Stover (of Plus/And), the Somali Museum of MN, and the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
The concept of the Warming House revolved around "home"
Visitors answered questions such as "what makes a home? " and "what connects you?" on paper and folded them into peregrine falcons to hang on the ceiling.
The Somali Museum of MN (the first and only Somali museum in the country) hosted storytelling, dancing, a performance by the first female Somali DJ, and a panel session for "Ask a Somali".
The MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge staff and volunteers led discussions on wildlife conservation issues and displayed bio-facts from the Refuge, including the famous Peri the Peregrine Falcon!
